BIO
Midwestern-born Madeline Strum came to New York in 2002 to work for magazines in every capacity possible. Influenced by the closure of several publications, she focused her passion for informing and entertaining to one medium: photography.
Madeline's work attempts to unravel and reveal the emotional core of her subjects. Her unobtrusive and candid style often reflects the warmth and humor she experiences in daily life. However, Madeline is not so concerned with the reality of a particular situation; she is more attuned to the potential for a greater narrative in the subject. Her photographs make us question what is truly happening in the frame and often suggest a deeper, more significant reality. Common themes include parenthood, isolation and the unseen. She has photographed for ELLE, Rolling Stone and Premiere among other publications.
Currently, Madeline is working on the project "Half," which strives to articulate the complexities of being a stepmother.
